I’m Lois
I write features, essays + direct response copy. I'm a messaging Strategist and a Professional uncoverer of inconvenient truths.
I spent fifteen years not calling myself a writer. While writing. Every single day.
I wrote books I couldn’t put my name on. Write ads that made millions. Studied journalism and trained in creative writing up to masters level, and built a career inside advertising and marketing, using every title available except the one that was true. Writer. I was raised in the North West of England, with less than no money, and where I come from, "starving artist" was a threat.
I live in Costa Rica now. In a little treehouse in the rainforest, I have two kids, and a life built entirely around my words. It took me long enough to admit it, but once I did, everything sharpened. These days, I work at the intersection of direct response copy and creative writing. Advertising that could well be art and art that could well be advertising.
I help founders, writers and creative thinkers say what they actually mean, and say it in a way that moves people. Not just emotionally, but commercially.
I know the structures. The formulas. The mechanics of how a sentence earns a click and how a paragraph earns trust. I have spent nearly two decades learning how words convert, which is a strange and specific education and one I would not trade. I also know, with equal specificity, what gets lost when everyone uses the same words the same way.
Which is, more or less, everything interesting.
